The magnificent setting for the
Liverpool, European Capital of  Culture
Grand Scottish Ball

Saturday, 24th May, 2008

In the Millennium Year 2000, the Liverpool, Southport and Wirral Branches of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society hosted a Millennium Ball at the St George's Hall, Liverpool. In the magnificent surroundings of the Great Hall over 400 danced to the music of the David Cunningham Band. Such was the success of the event that many dancers were disappointed to find all the tickets had been sold some 12 months prior to the event!

Liverpool is European Capital of Culture 2008

The city is already known around the world for its maritime heritage, architecture, music and sport. Culture and the arts have always been important to the city: its musical impact on the world has been unique; its writers, actors and artists have been pre-eminent; its architecture has been widely imitated; its art collections world-class and its sporting prowess has been legendary.

As part of the celebrations of the 2008 European Capital of Culture, RSCDS Liverpool and RSCDS Wirral Branches will stage a GRAND SCOTTISH BALL in the wonderful setting of the St George's Hall, the finest neo-classical building in Europe and one of the most important buildings in the World! Completed in 1854, St George’s Hall represents the prosperity in Liverpool in the 19th century. Built as law courts and as a venue for music festivals, the Hall stands at the heart of the City - both geographically and emotionally.

  • Music for the Grand Ball will be provided by the Marian Anderson Band.

  • Admission by ticket only, £30 per person (+30 pence package and post : ticket, dance "re-cap" booklet, and general information leaflet with maps, accommodation details and car park locations).

  • A buffet supper is provided and bar facilities will be available.
