VISITORS' NIGHT -  FEBRUARY 2023

On Tuesday 14th February RSCDS Wirral Branch hosted a Visitors' Night with invited guests from a number of local Scottish Country Dance groups.  As 2023 marks the 40th Anniversary of the formation of RSCDS Wirral Branch, the dance programme included the dance "Wirral in Gladenbach" which was devised by Valerie Farmer (former teacher at RSCDS Wirral) to commemorate the paricipation of the branch in a large folk dance festival in Landkreis Marburg-Biedenkopf, Germany in 1987.  Our group of some 40 dancers and helpers were hosted by the folk dance group in Gladenbach.

Our team of dancers was accompanied by accordionist Muriel Rimmer, husband Eric Rimmer and Gerry Jones on keyboard.  Muriel was inspired by the music of the German dance groups to compose the tune "Wirral in Gladenbach" and Valerie Farmer then devised the dance.

In the video, MC David Haynes guided the branch members and our visitors through the dance - not performed since the late 1980s.  You can see the concentration on some faces!

The music is the original tune by Muriel Rimmer, played by the Ewan Galloway Scottish Dance Band (CD - The Grove Collection Volume 2)
